Last night, I posted a prayer request that was and is very important to a little girl who’s survival depends on it. Is prayer that important though? According to God, it is. According to Jesus, it is. Jesus, on the night He was betrayed, went to the garden to pray.
(Luke 22:3941) And going out, according to His custom, He went to the Mount of Olives. And His disciples also followed Him. And when He was at the place, He said to them, Pray that you do not enter into temptation. And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw. And He kneeled down and prayed,
He knew that He was going to go through something that was impossible for anyone but Him. He knew that it was His job to sacrifice Himself. He prayed that night that, if it was the Father’s will, the cup be taken from His hand but that it was God’s will, not His, that would be done. But not only that night, it was His habit to go off away from the followers and pray by Himself during the night. He did this often.
But is prayer working today? YES!!! Absolutely! God gave us prayer as a way to communicate to Him our needs and desires. It is a pathway to listening to Him in time of need and seeking. We are told that we should not be worried about things but to bring them to God and put them at His feet. When you do this, not only your worries are gone but you have a better time hearing what God has to say as well.
Worry is nothing more than the opposite of faith. We must learn to deal with worry by casting it out and praying to God for all our needs. God says specifically to be anxious for nothing.
(Philippians 4:6-7) Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God which passes all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
I think that when we actually do what God is telling us about worry, we can live a worry-free life. But there is another plus to that. Take note that He also says that when you are worry-free, you will receive the peace of God that passes ALL understanding and that it shall keep your heart and mind. What that does for me is take care of those times when I feel like I am going crazy because of all the things that are coming into my life all at once.
When we pray to our Father, we have the satisfaction of knowing that He is on the job, taking care of the needs and cares of His children. The answers are not always what we want but they are the ones God has for us. And because of that, we no longer have to hang onto worries and cares. And do not forget that the bonus of all this is that we can have the peace that passes all understanding. It may be beyond our understanding but I have felt that peace and it is awesome!
