Does Prayer Work?

I have had to ask myself that question over and over. Sometimes, it’s like God hasn’t heard a word from me. He went on vacation. Lights on, nobody home. That’s what it FEELS like. Not true, of course. There are days that the prayer is getting no higher than the ceiling and I want it to soar like an eagle into the heavens. After all, if you put a flag on the prayer, send it flying very high, God will grab hold of it and give an answer right then and there. But you need the flag, must fly it high. Is that the way it really is? Nope.
God is definitely listening all the time. However, sometimes we block the answers all by ourselves. Ever tried to “help” God with the answers to prayers? Yeah, me too. Did it work for you? Nope, me neither. Why is that? For starters, God does not need your help to answer prayers. For another thing, when you stick your nose into the situation, like I tend to do, you could be sidetracking a fantastic opportunity coming from God, a blessing of huge proportions that you were too impatient to wait for. Ah, that WORD again. Wait. Another one…patience. We learned about that one before. Now it comes back. ACK!!
Anyway, the question was, does prayer work? The answer is an emphatic YES!! It certainly does. Things that have happened to people I know that were prayed over, it’s sometimes amazing, certainly awesome. Yes, prayer does work as long as you ask in faith, nothing doubting and in line with God’s word. Yes, there is that little string attached. But it’s a good string. It keeps us in line like we should be for this particular endeavor.
Do you have a special time for prayer each day? No? No wonder you don’t seem to get answers. How are you going to hear God if you have no clue what He is saying? So, take the time to pray and study God’s word each day. It’s awesome. The Bible has all the answers you really need. Did you know that the Bible is God’s owners manual for you to read and learn how to operate the machinery called the human person? Oh yes. It’s like that.
Give yourself a break from the world. Seek God’s face and enjoy the day. Wrap yourself in His arms. Sit in the shadow of the Almighty. Ask a few questions. He is your Father. He wants to teach you everything!!! So, does prayer work? Yes. It did today.
